I have asked myself, and others, this question many times. It all started with the answering machine. Then we had emails, mobile phones, and now mobile phones with emails. We now have Twitter, & ppl posting constantly about their lives. It isn't that I don't see how it could benefit this blog, but simply put, quite a bit of the time I don't give a da-- that you are sitting in Starbucks reading a book. Unless of course there is some benefit to me from that information, such as you are a friend I'm meeting for coffee. Also, I really don't figure you give a da-- that I am sitting somewhere either. I understand Twitter goes beyond that, but you get the point. I use twitter, and yes I've posted that I was sitting in a Starbucks.
So we have people running around with their iPhones and Crackberries worried they are missing emails, phone calls, and text messages. They are doing this while listening to music and Twittering away. With all of the social networking apps for the new smart phones, I have to admit I do love my iPhone, they are probably running an app that allows them to geotag the picture they just took, just before playing live poker and chatting with other players....
There are times when we all need to just unplug, turn off, disconnect, and chill out. What do you think? Are we just a bit toooo connected? Do we let all of these so called time savers actually suck up our time responding to and posting useless bits of information? You should read the The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris and see how he handles his time. You might like what you read...enjoy.
What do you think? Are we just a bit toooo connected? Do we let all of these so called "time savers" actually suck up our time responding to and posting useless bits of information? What do you feel are the positives & negatives of living in such a connected world?
