An identity theft incident just last week with a family member brought this issue to my mind again. As someone who is very "plugged-in" I am constantly monitoring my credit and updating my on and off line security measures. ConsumerAffairs.com has reported that for the seventh year in a row, identity theft tops the Federal Trade Commission's complaint list, accounting for 36 percent of the 674,354 complaints received between January 1 and December 31, 2006.
As bloggers and affiliate marketers we are all vulnerable to online identity theft. If you haven't yet taken steps to protect your identity I recommend you do so. If you are actively monitoring your accounts you still might want to consider a service like life lock or similar. These charge a small fee to protect, monitor, and guarantee your identity against theft. If you personally or you know someone who has been a victim of identity theft you know the damage and cost associated with it.
