Internal Links, Anchor Text, SEO, & Reader Loyalty

Internal page links are an area over which you have complete control yet many people don't pay enough attention to them. You have the greatest control over links from within your own web site so take advantage of that control. Sometimes it is hard to control how others link to you, but you can always do a good job of providing great links to yourself using internal site linking.

Here are some rules to follow when creating your Internal Page Links.

Make sure that the anchor text for you link is relevant to your target page

Whenever it is possible use words similar to those expressed in the title of the target article or page you are linking to. Make sure the anchor text is relevant and that the link title and the title of the article, post or page match the main keywords of the target page. Having a few of those ubiquitous "click here" links scattered around might make you look a bit more natural, but for the most part your links should describe what is on the other end of the link. For example if I wanted to link to one of my previous posts about Transforming Your Blog By Changing Yourself I could type in a link that looks like this.

Read my post Practice - Transforming Your Blog By Changing Yourself - Part 1 here.

It would be more profitable and productive however to use the title of
the post which includes good keywords as the anchor text for the link. Here is
the way it should be done.

This type of linking has a large impact on how you will rank for keywords. The more you link internally using specific keywords and to relevant content the higher you will rank for those keywords.

Use the title tag and use the main keywords from the target page

The title tag in a link is not as important as the anchor text, but many search engines still place quite a bit of weight on it. You can also make up a bit for a not-so-hot anchor text with good title keywords.

Example:
<a href="http://cmansmoneypages.blogspot.com/"
title="Cman's Money Page - Profitable Productive Blogging - Make Money Online With Cman"> Cman's Money Page - Profitable Productive Blogging</a>
Internal linking when done right will not only boost your standing for your keywords but also will encourage people to continue reading other content on your site. When posting on a topic that you have posted on in the past you should always include link(s) back to your previous posts. When people start clicking links on your site they move from being simple readers to being actively engaged in your sites content.

later all and have a profitable and productive blogging day

What the F Does the C Stand 4

I know all of you have been waiting with baited breathe for my first contest. Well we are taking the plunge together. Here is the chance for all of you to win something for doing almost nothing. Hopefully you won't think this Contest is full of Sh-t . For many many years I have had the "nickname," I guess you could call it, of Cman. Here lately, probably due in part to #10 in my 10 Reasons John Chow Probably Thinks This Blog Is About Him article, I have been getting asked more and more what the C in Cman stands for. Herein lays the focus of this contest. For the person who can guess what the C in Cman stands for I will give them $100. If multiple people guess correctly the winner will be chosen by random drawing from among the correct entries. If no one guesses correctly I will randomly pick from all entries and will award the winner of the losers $20. Clarification: 1. In the words of Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, "There can be only One." Winner that is. E

The Stripping Aristologist Contest Winner

Well as you can see from the above screen capture the winning entry is #5. Heading over to the contest post and looking through the comments and the trackbacks I found that Anton of Link Right Contests was entry #5 with his guess of Julia Child. The actual answer was incorrect so he won the $50 but not the bonus prize. I was a bit generous to 2 entries that commented and entered but did not give the link. I had to search their blog to find the answer. There were several that commented and gave a link to their blog but I could not find a post about the contest or any links back to this blog. Anywho....Congrats to Anton and thank you all so much for reading and taking the time to interact with this blog and really make it what it is. Oh and Anton you might want to consider some kind of Contact Me link for your blog. Other than trackback to your post and a comment I have no way to contact you regarding your winning entry. Having a Contact Me is one of the first things any blogger should
